The OnePlus 6T has proven itself to be a great flagship for tinkerers, as Dutch hacker Bas Timmer ported Windows on Arm (WoA) to the device last week. Now, the 25-year-old has taken to Twitter to show off his latest hack, and it might please Call of Duty fans.

Timmer posted a short video on Twitter, showing the PC version of 2007’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare running on the OnePlus 6T. The hacker notes that he’s indeed using Windows on Arm to help enable this feat.

The video shows Timmer starting a game on the popular Rust level, albeit without any other players. The performance itself is wobbly at this stage, but it’s playable if you’re a member of the low-end gaming subreddit. We don’t see any single-player gameplay or an actual multiplayer match taking place though, so we don’t know how it holds up during a proper session.

It’s a pretty remarkable feat nonetheless, especially when you consider that it’s the work of one person. And it also shows us just how far Windows and mobile chipsets have come in the past decade. In saying so, we wonder whether a Snapdragon 855-toting phone could deliver better performance in the game.

With the Oppo Reno popping up on several websites, there’s talk that the version we’re seeing is the standard edition. There’s also talk of a premium version of the Oppo Reno with the 10x optical zoom sensor, a version that IndiaShopps reportedly grabbed renders of.

According to the renders, this version of the Reno sports three rear cameras. The third camera from the top appears to be the 10x sensor, which is square and appears similar to what we saw during MWC.

Otherwise, the renders show off a version of the Reno that’s similar to what we saw last week. That means the phone comes in four colors — Fog Sea Green, Extreme Night Black, Mist Powder, and Nebula Purple.

The similarities also mean that this premium version of the Reno likely features a 6.6-inch AMOLED display, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, at least 6GB of RAM, at least 128GB of storage, and a 48-megapixel primary camera.

Oppo will hold its Reno launch events in China tomorrow, April 10 and in Zürich, Germany on Wednesday, April 24. We should learn much more about the smartphone, including its price and versions. Folks in China can reserve the Reno through Oppo’s website and Vopmart.com.

Dr. Nima Namgyal Sherpa and photographer Adam Meng trekked to the Everest Base Camp with an Oppo F11 Pro^[1] in hand and shared some of the photos they took.

The mountainscapes look spectacular, but getting there isn’t easy. The path goes through narrow iron bridges that are peppered with prayer flags. They are meant to give passers-by strength, but they also hint at the strength of the wind, which you don’t normally see in a photo.

Base Camp is home to marvelous sunrises and (thanks to no light pollution) all the stars are visible in the night sky. The Ultra Night Mode of the F11 Pro was used to snap the two images below.

It gets pretty cold up there – so you need to be quick when taking your gloves off to snap a photo – but the results are worth it. Plus, it sounds like the phone wasn’t bothered by the cold or the thin air.

What Oppo pulled may be a publicity stunt, but as far as these go it's certainly among the better ones we've seen. Anything for a few spectacular shots, right?

Here's an interesting stat - among Google Pixel 3 and OnePlus 6T buyers in Q4 of 2018 in the US, the most were former Samsung owners. Less than 20% were iPhone users.

Now let's clarify a bit. According to Counterpoint Research data, some 51% of Pixel 3 buyers in the States were owners of a Galaxy smartphone, however 31% of them owned a three year old Galaxy S7^[1]. While 37% of OnePlus 6T buyers came from a Samsung phone, many of them used either a Samsung J2 Prime or the aforementioned Galaxy S7.

Also worth noting is that 80% of the Pixel 3's sales came from owners of Android devices and that might be seen as a disappointment for a phone aimed at converting iOS users.

While not exactly leaders in the US market, it's important to note that the Google Pixel 3 accounted for 7.3% of all Verizon sales during the final quarter of 2018 while the OnePlus 6T captured 2.4% of T-Mobile's total sales.

However discounts on Samsung and Apple smartphones have lead to a slow Q1 of 2019 for the OnePlus 6T.

Amazon is doing a bit of Spring cleaning and that means low prices on some leftover electronics. Here are a few interesting offerings.

In the US, you can grab an Apple iPad^[1] (128GB, Wi-Fi) for just $330^[2]. The 32GB version goes down to $250, but is currently backordered.

In the UK, a large number of Android phones as well as iPhone 7 and 7 Plus units are discounted up to 35%. You can see the full list here^[3]. Long story short, an iPhone 7^[4] (32GB) is £410^[5], a Galaxy S8^[6] (64GB) is £400^[7] and a OnePlus 6^[8] (64GB) is £390^[9].

A Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact^[10] may be the last of the petite flagships, it goes for £400^[11]. It’s also discounted on Amazon Germany to €400^[12].

Amazon’s own devices – including the Fire tablets, Echo smart speakers and Ring-branded products are discounted as well (here’s what the UK deals^[13] look like).

Today Qualcomm took the wraps off its two newest mobile chipsets: the Snapdragon 665 and the Snapdragon 730 (which also gets a 730G bin, with 15% better graphics).

Snapdragon 665

The Snapdragon 665 seems to be intended as the successor to the Snapdragon 660^[1]. Compared to that, it's made on a smaller 11nm LPP process, which means it should bring some battery life improvements to the table as well as some cost reduction.

Like its predecessor, the 665 has four Kryo 260 cores, based off of the ARM Cortex-A73 microarchitecture, but these only go up to 2GHz compared to 2.2 GHz in the 660. The four low-power Kryo 260 cores (based on Cortex-A53) are still clocked at 1.8GHz.

A big improvement should arrive in the graphics department, with the new Adreno 610 GPU, and Hexagon 686 DSP. The Snapdragon 665 employs the Spectra 165 ISP, which supports up to a 48 MP single main camera, or 16 MP dual snappers, or even triple setups (whereas the 660 topped out at 24 MP single). Those are all the differences.

Snapdragon 730 and 730G

Compared to the 710^[2], which it is probably replacing, the Snapdragon 730 upgrades the two 'big' CPU cores from Kryo 360 (based on ARM Cortex-A75) to Kryo 470 (Cortex-A76), while keeping the same maximum clock speed of 2.2 GHz. The six 'small' power-efficient cores are still based on Cortex-A55, but they go up to 1.8GHz now, 100MHz more than before. All of this should translate into a substantial 35% leap in CPU performance.

Also new in the 730 are the Adreno 618 GPU (which promises 25% increased performance), Hexagon 688 DSP, and Spectra 350 ISP, the latter of which enables up to a 36 MP single main camera or a 22 MP dual setup and 960fps 720p slo-mo video capture, as well as 4K HDR video Portrait mode. The new ISP can do computer vision acceleration too, and the new DSP includes Qualcomm's Tensor Accelerator units for machine learning inferencing - these have so far been features relegated to the top tier 8xx line of Snapdragon SoCs, but not anymore.

The Snapdragon 730 is made on Samsung's 8nm LPP process, which at the moment is the second best there is - and since this is still a mid-range chipset, that's quite impressive. The new process should yield some battery life improvements compared to the Snapdragon 710 which was made on a 10nm process, but we'll have to wait for shipping devices to really judge that.

There will also be a Snapdragon 730G, which promises 15% better graphics performance compared to the 730, due to the use of higher clock speeds. All of the new chipsets are stated to be available in commercial devices in mid-2019.
