Yesterday a teaser poster surfaced[1], seemingly confirming that Redmi's next phone will be called the Redmi X. Well, it won't be.
Redmi GM Lu Weibing has gone on record on Weibo[2] to say that Redmi X isn't the name of the phone and that Redmi will have a better name for it.
This spares us tech journos and the general public from further confusion between Xiaomi's Redmi and Oppo's Realme. The latter looks certain to release a device called Realme X[3].

Back to Redmi. Xiaomi's sub-brand is expected to drop a Snapdragon 855-powered device[4] later this year with a triple camera and pop-up selfie camera. But it's expected that Redmi will first release a Snapdragon 730-powered phone.
