Well folks, it looks like the Galaxy Fold will soon be back on the menu. According to The Investor (via SamMobile), a Samsung executive has confirmed the company’s first folding smartphone with a flexible display is once again ready for launch.
Samsung Display Vice President Kim Seong-cheol reportedly made the announcement at a Korean Information Display Society event yesterday. According to the publication, Kim said: “Most of the display problems have been ironed out, and the Galaxy Fold is ready to hit the market.”
It’s perhaps a bit of a worry that it’s ready despite only “most” of the problems being fixed — you would hope all problems are solved before it’s ready to hit the shelves. Still, it’s positive news, especially since only five days ago The Korea Herald reported Samsung had made no progress with the phone’s new release date.
The Galaxy Fold was originally set to be released in April before being postponed due to problems with the display. Since then, Huawei has also delayed the launch of its first folding smartphone, the Mate X, until September.
Will Samsung still be able to beat its big rival to the punch? We’ll have to wait and see.
